For the Ride of Your Life:

"It may well be that there is no human urge more fundamental than that of making a mark"-

In the words of Chuck Close: "You Just Have to Show Up

"I would like to make something that is real in itself," [Arthur Dove] once wrote, "that does not remind anyone of any other thing, and that does not have to be explained like the letter A, for instance."

“Art is never an end in itself; it is only an instrument for tracing the lines of lives.”

—Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (qtd. in West)

"Consuming Death" work in progress (charcoal and conte)
Have been feeling an urgency to draw. The image is from a photo originally taken for sculpture. The texture of my hair struck me, and I wanted to exploit those marks. While doing so, I realized a bird was forming. It seemed like a vulture, but I wasn't sure. I went over to my computer and looked up vulture images, found an image and it looked just like the image I had drawn. I realized, that a vulture is a symbol of "consuming death". I have been consumed by this "death" thing for 4 plus years now. Maybe the vulture is a good sign.

  2. Looks like you're getting right into it, now!

So, T - you good and all? I know the mentor thing is tough. You'll work it through, though; I know how savvy you are. I thought I should remind you, however - just in case you forgot ;)

See if you can't contact Gillian again about her blog invite. I asked her to try it a couple of times on my email until the invite came through, since it didn't work initially.

I'm gonna follow you now. Unless you'd rather I stalk you, so you can tell all your friends you have a stalker. Hee hee. Miss you!
