For the Ride of Your Life:

"It may well be that there is no human urge more fundamental than that of making a mark"-

In the words of Chuck Close: "You Just Have to Show Up

"I would like to make something that is real in itself," [Arthur Dove] once wrote, "that does not remind anyone of any other thing, and that does not have to be explained like the letter A, for instance."

“Art is never an end in itself; it is only an instrument for tracing the lines of lives.”

—Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (qtd. in West)

Heading to Boston this week for my next review with Georgie Friedman.
Hoping to be able to find ways to transport large work, without ruining it.
Had a bit of a reverse on the roller coaster with my next paper. Starting back on the uphill climb, but all the better for the slip. Take care.

The Ride just keeps getting better and better!

First of all, just so that everyone knows, Kathy Dunn Jacobs and I are now in love with William Kentridge and are going to work very hard to meet him someday!
That said...You MUST go to MOMA...I don't care if it does take away from your precious studio time. You will be effected (affected?) I don't know, who cares.JUST GO.

Keepin it Movin' 2

45"x51"
I am lovin' this paper and I am loving the sheer act of drawing. Once I get over the anxiety of thinking of the next paper to write, and get my butt out to the studio... nothing can drag me away. Sometimes I find that I may only do a small amount of marks on the works, but every stroke seems to be intentional, unlike my past ways of working, where I would just go at it in a haphazard sort of way.
Now, don't say I am trying to control too much, not letting things "happen" because I am finding that by having an intent is a freedom on its own. I may sit back, look, process and then react, but once the reaction begins.. WATCHOUT! the fun begins to happen.
Hope everyone is moving along...who knows if this is what I am "supposed" to be doing. For me, I guess it is.

Keeping it Movin'

More works in progress...heading to The City Saturday to check out Kentridge.....anyone going to the city...let's meet up

The Experience of the Ride!

What you see below is my way of focusing, by not focusing. I have decided that I am NOT a beginning, middle and end kind of artist. I am a beginning, beginning, middle, beginning, middle, post-middle, keep going, beginning, and eventually, end, end, end. kind of artist. (that was the long way around saying that I work things out better when I ALLOW myself to not fit into the linear structure of learning that society has us to believe we need to fit into.

This has allowed me the freedom to let what is going to happen, happen. It serves me well, and create the thrill of a ride I have not been on in quite a long time.
Buy a ticket...Hop on.. Try it. You will like it. ( all works are in progress)
