For the Ride of Your Life:

"It may well be that there is no human urge more fundamental than that of making a mark"-

In the words of Chuck Close: "You Just Have to Show Up

"I would like to make something that is real in itself," [Arthur Dove] once wrote, "that does not remind anyone of any other thing, and that does not have to be explained like the letter A, for instance."

“Art is never an end in itself; it is only an instrument for tracing the lines of lives.”

—Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (qtd. in West)

Crit Images for 1/26/14

These are the images for Sunday's crit. With the main shirt, which I began in the MFA prgram and have not worked on since, it is my intention to deconstruct the shirt as much as possible without having the object totally destruct I will explain when we speak The wall/ceiling images are from my workshop in Truro with Judy Pfaff. This piece was a reactive piece. My goal for the workshop, was to begin to create works based on space rather than create works and then just hang them in a space. This is really where I want to concentrate most of my new work I tried all sorts of things, but by the end of the week, something really interesting happened. I will talk about that Sunday also. for now I guess I would just like for you to LOOK at the works in progress, and then on Sunday simply "Tell me what you see...." Thanks

TAKE NOTE: THE WORKS AND WRITINGS PRIOR TO FEBRUARY 2012 WERE CREATED DURING MY MFA RESIDENCY AT AIB.
