For the Ride of Your Life:

"It may well be that there is no human urge more fundamental than that of making a mark"-

In the words of Chuck Close: "You Just Have to Show Up

"I would like to make something that is real in itself," [Arthur Dove] once wrote, "that does not remind anyone of any other thing, and that does not have to be explained like the letter A, for instance."

“Art is never an end in itself; it is only an instrument for tracing the lines of lives.”

—Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (qtd. in West)

Ticket Three Ready for Purchase

Boy those rocky old roller coasters beat your bones, whip your neck and make you aching for a hot tub. This past residency certainly was like a ride on the old Cyclone; uphills, downhills, bump bump bumps, and thrashings. I was just waiting for the car to derail and send me flying off of that sharp corner into the parking lot below. However, I took the ride and managed to stay on...the car is now coasting into the starting gate and I am ready to purchase ticket number three.

Hope this next ride is a bit more like Superman
